In January 2018, as Hawaii residents went about their daily lives, everyone in the state received a text message from the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency.

As cellular communication networks collapsed, and panic took hold of the population, 1.4m people had to contemplate the very real possibility that they were about to become victims of a nuclear attack.

This project is a long-term impact campaign that aims to inspire people around the world to take action to shape the future of nuclear weapons policy. It offers a number of ways for people to get involved and work together to abolish nuclear weapons.

The experience uses virtual production techniques such as volumetric capture and innovative documentary storytelling.
Avoiding computer-generated characters and overcoming the challenges of large-scale volumetric capture was essential to maximize the emotional immersion of each scene.

The resulting human assets are organic, authentic and natural – everything our clients were looking for in terms of physical and emotional impact. But they were also data-intensive and required months of pipeline testing to optimize them for a long-lasting narrative experience designed primarily for the Oculus Quest 2 headset.
