Interactive Installations – immersive audio

Since 2016, Novelab has been a regular partner of the Cité de l’Espace. We have produced and developed multimedia content for the Astronauts exhibition in 2016, then for the Moon, Episode II exhibition in 2019.
Recently, we have been in charge of the development of audio devices for the new scientific mediation space dedicated to the rovers exploration.

CDE - Astronauts

As part of the Astronauts exhibition, which aims to share the realities of astronauts’ lives on board the International Space Station, we were in charge of writing the scenarios, the gameplay as well as the production of the visual and audio contents including animations and motion capture). Finally, we were responsible for the hardware supply and the integration of the devices.
The four devices we developed included: a screen to which an infrared Kinect camera is connected, a mirror manipe with interaction through a joystick, an interactive and humorous game designed for maximum accessibility and comfort to children and a touch and interactive tablet.

CDE - Moon, Episode II

During the exhibition MOON, Episode II, La Cité de l’Espace celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the first steps of Man on the Moon (July 21, 2019).
Novelab has designed three devices designed to gradually immerse the public in a lunar expedition. The visitor first tests the different ways of sheltering on the Moon in case of meteorites (via a screen and an interface), then he experiments gravity and slowness by jumping in a lunar environment (mirror manipe) before leaving himself on an expedition aboard a huge rover (immersive installation, video show).

CDE - Martian Land

In 2021, the Cité de l’Espace has created a new scientific mediation space dedicated to the exploration of rovers in order to enlighten the public on space missions to the planet Mars. This space proposes to discover the unpublished replicas of the 5 Mars rovers Sojourner, Opportunity, Curiosity, Perseverance and Tianwen-1. It is also possible to listen to their stories, their major scientific objectives and their technological challenges by scanning the various QR codes.
Novelab was in charge of the development of the audio devices for which we wrote the scripts, recorded voices, produced soundtracks and did the sound design. We also developed and did the integration into the mobile application.
